Taiz Governor Opens Policy Workshop Yemen Internal Displacement
Taiz, Yemen – Governor of Taiz Nabil Shamsan inaugurated a workshop on the National Policy for Addressing Internal Displacement in Yemen today. The workshop was organized by the Executive Unit for the Management of IDP Camps, with the participation of representatives of local authorities from the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah, under the auspices of Prime Minister Dr. Moin Abdulmalik and the governors of the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah, with funding from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
During the opening, the governor of the province stressed that the transition from emergency assistance to sustainable development is the safest approach to achieving real development at the individual and family level. He urged the participants and all stakeholders to recall and represent the economic development plan for the province for 2024-2026, in coordination with the Planning and International Cooperation Office of the province.
Governor Shamsan pointed to the suffering of the province from pressures on various service and production levels as a result of the increasing displacement process from other provinces, in addition to the return of displaced people from the province.
He also expressed his thanks to the leadership of the Executive Unit represented by Mr. Najib Al-Saadi and the office of the Executive Unit in the province for the role they play in serving and caring for the displaced.
For his part, Assistant Head of the Executive Unit, Director of Branches Management, Abdo Muhib, said that the Executive Unit is seeking through the implementation of workshops to discuss the mechanisms for implementing the National Policy for Addressing Internal Displacement and Permanent Solutions with all concerned parties to create a common national vision for implementing the policy and addressing displacement, and to involve stakeholders in planning and making decisions about their future, leading to permanent solutions.
For his part, the Director of the Office of the Executive Unit in Taiz, Ali Qaid, explained that this workshop comes within the framework of integrating official humanitarian work in the province, and introducing the National Policy for Addressing Internal Displacement in the Republic of Yemen, which was approved by the Prime Minister’s Office in 2013 as a government document that deals with the humanitarian file in Yemen and issues of internal displacement, and works to protect and assist the displaced and address their conditions, wishing the participants success and to come up with recommendations and outputs to benefit from them in addressing the issues of internal displacement in the provinces of Taiz and Hodeidah in particular.
The workshop also included an introduction to the national policy, its establishment, its purpose, and its objectives at the level of roles and responsibilities. The participants also discussed the mechanisms for implementing the national policy, their vision for permanent solutions, and came up with a number of recommendations to achieve the desired goals.
