Reports on Flood and Rain Damage in Taiz and Abyan Governorates
The Executive Unit for IDP Camps Management in Yemen has revealed an initial assessment of the damage caused by heavy rains and floods in various areas of Abyan and Taiz governorates, located in the south and southwest of the country.
The report indicates that Abyan Governorate was hit by heavy rains, flash floods, and strong winds on August 16-17, 2024, affecting 303 displaced households.
According to initial information, the damage includes 44 households in Kadmat La’our, 69 households in Wadi Al-Kud, 20 households in Al-Makhzan, 20 households in An-Nash, and 150 households in Jol Sinan and Jol Alsada in Jaar, Khanfar District.
The heavy rains, floods, and strong winds caused significant destruction of homes, leaving households, including both displaced persons and members of the host communities, homeless and vulnerable. These households are in desperate need of food, shelter, non-food items (NFIs), and medical assistance.

Damage in Taiz
In Taiz, between August 17-18, 2024, heavy rains and flooding severely destroyed shelters, non-food items (NFIs), and food supplies of internally displaced persons in Al-Qahirah and Salah Districts.
According to the Executive Unit’s report, a total of 242 IDPs living in nine sites in Al-Qahirah District and one site in Salah District were affected by the rains and floods.
The Executive Unit stressed that the displaced households are currently in urgent need of food, shelter, NFIs, and medical aid.
